EPAA distributes eco-friendly bags at Sharjah Coop
Sharjah Coop and the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) launched a campaign to hand out 10,000 free eco-friendly, biodegradable bags to customers at their 10 branches across the emirate.
This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of responsible environmental practices and promote the idea of environmental sustainability within the community.
The importance of such programmes and activities in raising community knowledge about sustainability needs was emphasised by Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority. This helps to consolidate Sharjah's reputation as an eco-friendly city.
In a statement, Al Suwaidi lauded the joint efforts of the Sharjah Cooperative Society and the authority to safeguard a variety of land and water areas, maintain biodiversity, advance environmental sustainability, and educate the public about how their actions affect the planet.
Al Suwaidi promoted and increased the use of these environmentally friendly bags in a wide range of everyday activities.
Majid Al Junaid, the CEO of Sharjah Cooperative Society, has confirmed that the campaign coincides with the Year of Sustainability. Its goal is to encourage customers at Sharjah Cooperative Society branches to use fewer plastic bags overall by drawing attention to the harm that these bags do to UAE wildlife and our precious natural resources.
